Fit & Size – Which press-ons are right for me?

🖐️ Find the right length, shape & size for your nails
Not sure which LumiCat Press-Ons are right for your natural nails? The right choice depends primarily on the length, shape, size, and natural curve of your nails. Here's a quick guide to help you find the perfect combination—and then the design that truly suits you.
In short: A press-on fits when it covers your natural nail from one side edge to the other without touching the skin. When in doubt, choose the next larger size. LumiCat offers extra short squoval plus short oval and short almond, and every set contains 30 press-ons in 13 or 15 sizes.

Which length suits you best?
At LumiCat, we currently offer two lengths: Extra Short and Short.
💅 Extra Short
Maximum length. Minimal in the way.
Extra Short ends approximately at the fingertip or extends only slightly beyond it.
Ideal if you:
- prefer very short nails
- type a lot or work on a computer
- want maximum freedom of movement in everyday life
- are looking for a particularly natural look
- wear contact lenses or play an instrument
- don’t feel comfortable with longer press-ons
Our Extra Short designs are currently available in the Squoval shape.
✨ Short
Short, neat, and a little more visible.
Short nails extend slightly beyond the fingertip, but remain compact and practical for everyday wear.
Ideal if you:
- are trying press-ons for the first time and like a neat but practical look
- want short nails but prefer a little more length
- are looking for a classic manicure look
- want more nail surface for your design
- are looking for a good balance between comfort and visible length
Our Short designs are currently available in Oval and Almond shapes.
Which shape suits you best?
LumiCat currently offers three shapes. They differ not only visually, but can also have a different effect on your natural nail shape.

What size do you need?
Now comes the most important part for a good fit.
The press-on should completely cover your natural nail from one side edge to the other, without overlapping the skin.

Here's how to check your size
First, apply the press-on to your natural nail without glue.
✓ Both sides of your natural nail are completely covered.
✓ The press-on lies as evenly as possible.
✓ It doesn't touch your skin or cuticles.
✓ It's not under any uncomfortable tension.
Too small?
If your natural nail remains visible at the sides, the press-on is too small.
Choose a larger size. Do not apply pressure to a press-on that is too small.
Too big?
If the press-on touches the skin or extends beyond the sides of your natural nail, first try the next smaller size in your set.
When in doubt, slightly larger is better than too small.
Why 30 nails in 13 or 15 sizes?
Your nails are unique – therefore your set shouldn't have to work according to sizes S, M or L.

Each LumiCat set contains 30 press-on nails in 13 or 15 different sizes. This allows you to choose the perfect size for each finger. Some sizes are included multiple times – handy if, for example, two fingers need the same size.
Natural nails aren't standardized: the little finger can be significantly narrower, the left and right thumbs might require different sizes, or two fingers might happen to be the same size.
With a set of 10 or just a few sizes, it's difficult to accommodate this individuality. 30 nails give you the flexibility you need for a truly customized fit.
You can always find the exact sizes included in your set on the respective product page.

What if you're between two sizes?
Better a little bigger than a little smaller.
A slightly larger size usually fits more comfortably. Try the other sizes in your set to see if that's right for you.
A press-on that's too small, on the other hand, can be too tight, pinch, or pop off more easily.
The right press-on should completely cover your natural nail without pressure or uncomfortable tension.
What about the curvature of my nails?

Besides the width, the natural curve of your nail also plays a role.
This curve is known as the C-curve.
Press-on nails also have a pre-shaped curve. If this curve differs significantly from the shape of your natural nail, the fit can be problematic even if the width is correct.

Make sure your press-on nail:
- lies as evenly as possible
- is not under excessive tension
- does not pinch
- does not hurt
- does not permanently stick out at the sides
A slight feeling of tightness or of a foreign object at the beginning is normal and usually fades after a few hours. If it persists, remove the press-ons and check fit and size.
A good fit therefore means not only the right width – the curve should also harmonize with your natural nail as much as possible.
My natural nail peeks out at the side or tip: what can I do?
This is what I call a “nail peeker” (German: “Nagelblitzer”): a small part of your natural nail is visible beside or behind the press-on. It happens mostly with oval and almond shapes, when the taper of the press-on doesn’t quite match a slightly longer natural nail.
In most cases it’s purely cosmetic, and usually only you notice it when you look closely. It happens to me with some sets too, and it doesn’t bother me at all: nobody sees it, and the press-ons still look like a perfect fit to me.
I have trapezoid nails: will press-ons still fit?
Yes! Some people naturally have trapezoid nails, meaning nails that get wider toward the tip. You can definitely wear press-ons with them. With this nail shape, nail peekers may show up more often.
Extra Short sets will probably fit less well here. Short Oval and Short Almond are worth a try. You can use the tips below, or simply leave it as is.
If it bothers you:
- First try the next smaller or larger size.
- Plan B: choose a larger size and file it slightly narrower on the sides, using a fine, soft file.
- Then apply a standard clear top coat. It protects the seal and extends the durability of the filed press-on.
My default is to keep length and shape unchanged, because the original seal gives the best result (especially for cat-eye, velvet and chrome designs). But if the choice is between wearing them filed or not wearing them at all, filed is the better option.

Frequently asked questions about fit
Which length suits short natural nails?
Extra short (squoval) ends roughly at the fingertip, short (oval and almond) extends slightly beyond it. Both are compact and practical for everyday wear.
Which size should I choose if I’m between two sizes?
The larger one. A slightly larger size usually fits more comfortably. Try the neighboring sizes first without adhesive.
Is it normal for press-ons to feel tight at first?
A slight feeling of tightness or of a foreign object at the beginning is normal and usually fades after a few hours. If it persists, remove them and check fit and size.
What is a nail peeker?
A small part of your natural nail is visible beside or behind the press-on. It’s mostly cosmetic. If it bothers you, try a different size.
Will press-ons fit trapezoid nails?
Yes. Short oval and short almond are worth a try, extra short will probably fit less well. Nail peekers may show up more often.
Can I shorten or file press-ons?
It’s best to keep length and shape unchanged. You may gently smooth the small nub at the tip. Shortening, clipping and coarse filing damage the seal.
