Hygiene for Press-On Nails
Share
🫧 For your natural nails to stay healthy, hygiene plays an important role – especially if you are working with adhesive tabs.
Wear Time & Adhesive Tabs
We recommend removing Press-Ons with adhesive tabs after 5–7 days at the latest or changing the tabs.
Why?
Adhesive tabs never seal 100%. Over time, tiny gaps can form where moisture, dirt, or bacteria can accumulate – things that are often invisible to the naked eye.
If you want to wear your Press-Ons longer:
→ Remove them after a few days, clean everything thoroughly, and use new adhesive tabs.
This way, you can easily wear your set again.
Real Talk from the Community 💬
Many people wear Press-Ons with adhesive tabs for much longer and report that they "never had any problems." This can absolutely be true – but:
👉 Hygiene is individual
Depending on your daily routine, contact with water, care, and environment, the risk can vary.
Therefore:
Even if it often goes well, the likelihood of hygienic problems increases after about a week.
Alternative: Nail Glue
If you want to wear your Press-Ons for a longer period, liquid nail glue can be an option.
- Usually completely seals the nail
- Less susceptible to moisture under the Press-On
But:
- Removal is more laborious
- Press-Ons are usually not reusable afterwards
Greenies – What's Behind It? 🦠
Perhaps you've heard the term before:
A "greenie" is a greenish discoloration on the natural nail.
What exactly is it?
Not mold, but a bacterium (Pseudomonas) that thrives in a moist, warm environment.
How does it occur?
When a small gap forms between the natural nail and the Press-On (e.g., due to lifting) and moisture gets trapped there, which cannot dry properly.
What to do if it happens?
Don't panic – it is usually harmless.
- Remove the Press-On and dispose of it for hygienic reasons
- Gently buff the natural nail
- Clean thoroughly with alcohol (e.g., isopropanol)
- Allow to air dry thoroughly
The discoloration simply grows out over time.
How to prevent it ✨
When applying, make sure no air bubbles form
Press the Press-On evenly and firmly
Remove or change adhesive tabs regularly
Keep your nails clean and dry
